The Importance of Improvements:

Introduction:

Being an independent individual is an important trait majority of people have, and it also helps in several different situations. However, many people tend to forget the importance of solitude and thinking for themselves, which causes them to experience certain negative outcomes in situations.

What Are These “Situations”:

Imagine yourself in a group project, and the assignment is to create a presentation on the anatomy of a sheep. You’ve learned about all of the different organs, vitals, and bone structures to help you map out and visualize what a sheep looks like internally, so this project should be a piece of cake. In situations like these, however, we tend to get relaxed and forget about the essential goal of the project. The main purpose is to apply our knowledge and help correct and guide our teammates in the right direction. Many of us project this, and we tend to AI or completely eradicate our own thoughts and agree with everyone else without refuting details. This is a terrible habit to have because it hurts us from developing and expanding on our own ideas, because we are simply not invested in improving from the beginning. Once you’re at the mountain top, you need to hover around there and look for another peak; don’t climb back down and waste the hard-earned effort.

Independence:

We ask ourselves, “How does this relate to independence?” The key goal of a project is to connect everyone's ideas and conjure the best possible explanation for the class to understand. Think of it as proficiency in several different topics, and using those skills to create a masterful end product for the audience and bystanders. The audience sees the end product, and we need to express ourselves with our knowledge. These projects are split by specialties. If we slack off or do not invest a set amount of time into a project, then we hinder not only ourselves but our partners as well. We can ruin our reputation by simply not caring enough. You need to be able to explain and master a concept yourself, expand upon those ideas with peers, and then use the refined ideas to create a meaningful product.

Motivation:

The elephant in the room is motivation; we are irritated and uninterested in topics that may lead us to stagnate at a certain point. However, we don’t only stagnate, we also lose certain skills that we may have learned in the past, and as a result, not the same person as before. We want to be encouraged and truly motivated to accomplish something, which is why mastery in a certain concept is hard. Especially in a group project, we feel compelled by our friends to not put in as much effort as is necessary because of peer pressure, inadequate supplies, or simply not caring enough. The problem is we only see surface-level things. We think to ourselves,

  • Well, they’re not doing any work, so I don’t need to either.

  • Why is that kid reading a book?

  • That guy in the back is sleeping

But we don’t think about the potential reasons for these actions. Perhaps those kids already finished their work early, or are simply well-equipped for that specific topic. This is a terrible way to think because we, people who do not work, may justify our own actions for not utilizing optimal effort, because other people may not showcase it.

Conclusion:

Overall, the importance of constantly improving and staying invested in certain topics will bring significant opportunities for you; you shouldn’t feel forced or peer pressured into not finishing work or optimizing a certain situation because of others. We need to constantly improve, and we’ve written several articles on different strategies to improve yourself as a human being. The next time you see a kid sleeping in class, think to yourself, “That kid may have finished the slides at home, but I haven’t, so I must concentrate in class.”
