Improving Confidence and Building Courage

Introduction:

In modern society, many young teens and adults struggle with recognizing themselves and understanding how to portray themselves to the outside world. Many of these people are fixated with their own minds, unwilling to take advice, or are too scared to actually make a necessary change. Sadly, confidence and courage have gotten worse over the years because of social media and mental health. It’s important to address these problems, as confidence will change your life for the better.

Drop in Confidence:

Many different causes of the declining confidence epidemic plague many people, so it is quite difficult to pinpoint exactly what may have caused someone to feel less motivated or certain in themselves. Social media may be one of the most crucial factors for this epidemic, though. People constantly scroll and engage with people they’ve never seen or met. The issue is that people tend to exaggerate themselves and post pictures or stories of themselves at their pinnacle. We, the viewers, do not see the scenes work; however, we immediately assume that the person is better or more gifted than we are. It doesn’t matter how much editing, photoshopping, or circumstances that may have caused a post to look a lot better than it should have, because people are not shown what makes up the photo. They are shown the final product, and it ruins them mentally.

Bodybuilding is a great example of the true effects of social media exaggeration. Lighting and muscle pumps allow the body to look a lot more active and fit than if it were in a normal scenario. However, if someone watches a video of a man flexing with those traits, then it seems like they appear that way the entire day. That is simply not the case, however. People tend to take pictures of themselves immediately after a workout to optimize their muscle appearance and veins, and gyms often have great lighting that will further exemplify the body. Taking videos of yourself is a great way to build your own confidence, but when others see this, they tend to view themselves as less impressive,

It’s not only bodybuilding where insecurity stems from, but also expenditures. It’s generic and often the most popular way to deceive the internet. Let’s use an employee at a car dealership. They can easily take a photo with an expensive car and post on their story that they have just bought it, and are looking to buy more cars in the near future. People wouldn’t know that the employee doesn’t own the car, but rather works for the dealership that retains expensive cars. People will see this employee as extremely impressive and will view themselves in a negative way because of the difference in the numerical value between the two entities.

Epidemic:

Once the initial stages are completed, it's further spread and distributed to several million individuals around the globe. The reason why people exaggerate themselves online is to fit in and establish themselves in the internet hierarchy. The main dilemma is that if everyone thinks in that manner, then everyone will start to lie and maximize their posts even if they are deceitful. It repeats as a cycle because more people will start to lie if they see other people.

Is There a Way to Remediate Confidence?

Luckily, confidence is a skill that can be trained relentlessly without much worry. Luckily, it isn’t something that is permanently gone after a while. It’s kind of like a muscle where, if not addressed, it will decrease in size and value, but once optimized, it can again grow to its previous state, if not greater. There are countless ways to improve your confidence and portrayal of yourself, but you will need to sacrifice an important thing.

  • Social Media(Set time limits)

It will be difficult, but the results will more than definitely be worth it.

Conclusion:

In future years, confidence will likely still decline and become less abundant due to the sheer scale of social media deceit. It’s quite concerning because confidence is an attainable skill with enough practice. Steps to improve one’s confidence are simple, and there are various ways to improve yourself without needing a mentor. It is a mental game with yourself, and you’ll need to take the right actions to challenge yourself to grow. One thing is certain, however, social media is destroying your confidence.
