Introduction:
There are days when a topic may seem interesting, and we like to research and invest some of our time into discovering it. However, this passion lasts for a very short period of time. Joys and passions change rapidly, and people tend to forget about a certain task or skill they want to learn within days. Another word to describe this phenomenon is inconsistency.
Inconsistency:
Inconsistency is common, often existing within our daily lives. We see it everywhere. A habit you may have broken now and then is because of inconsistency. Everyone is inconsistent to an extent, but nowadays several young adults tend to demotivate themselves and forget about the consistency in a certain task.
Motivation:
Social media has seriously impacted our mental health to the extent that it is difficult to praise our own skills. This slippery slope eventually ends up demotivating us to accomplish anything. Think of a cool skill you saw on a instagram reel, it could be a backflip, and you would try it immediately because it seems intriguing and fun to attempt. While the initial attempts are fun, it quickly gets dull and oftentimes rough for many people to attempt for days. It goes something like,
“Oh wow, that seems cool I want to try it out!”
“That’s way harder than I thought it would be.”
“Alright, this is getting difficult and painful.”
“Time to move on.
We move on too quickly. We cannot find a median or an outside force to help reel us back in because our minds have already decided our next plan of action. The cycle repeats and continues, and eventually, most of the skills are already gone. You’ve attempted and tried so many times that you’ve exhausted practically all doable skills. It makes you feel hopeless because there is simply nothing you may be able to achieve. This is not normal; you shouldn’t feel somber for a task, enjoyment should spark from it. Try to motivate yourself to push harder.
Alright, let's try this again tomorrow
I will definitely get it this time.
Phrases like this seem generic, but simple words allow you to push harder.
Research:
Alright, now we are motivated. What next? The people who have gotten past the difficult stage of consistent practice tend to struggle with how to research and create a regulated schedule. We want to start immediately, ignoring the fundamentals and proper techniques, to accelerate our learning. It’s fun, and the human ego tends to want to figure everything out on its own, butfor some skills, you’ll need assistance. One example is basketball; you’ll need a coach, someone you can trust and rely on to fix your form. You need to watch an online video on dribbling, shooting the ball, and the rules, because you’ll be uneducated and stuck in a wormhole. The world is more connected than ever, and we can find videos, tutorials, tutors, coaches, and books about every skill possible.
Conclusion:
Overall, learning skills is enjoyable and takes several months to years to fully learn. You need to be consistent and take important protocols to learn and commit to them. You cannot constantly switch because your brain will be overloaded, your emotions will be riled, and you’ll be depleted of all of your energy. Skills are meant to be processed and learned one at a time. Do not feel scared if people judge you because you’re competing against yourself. Especially skills that rely on concentration and precision. The smallest side factors can seriously impact your ability to focus and maximize your output. Here are some tips
Take several deep breaths before a session
Constantly tell yourself, outloud, motivational words
Create an organized schedule
Watch at least one helpful video per day, because everyone can learn something new
Compliment yourself
These gestures help calm our minds; they act like our best friends in situations where we may not have the option to receive help. We need to be our own best friend. We need to constantly compliment and encourage ourselves to work hard. If you make a mistake, do not blame yourself or the surroundings. Focus on the future and the positives of your learning. Eventually, you’ll master the skill and show it off to your friends and family.
