Introduction:
You’ve probably watched many different sports: basketball, soccer, football, tennis, hockey, baseball, volleyball, and other thrill-inducing ones. It is inevitable that in some games the score is tied, and it comes down to the final shot to seal the game. When successful, you’ve definitely thought to yourself, “That guy must be extremely focused on his craft.” Fortunately, concentration is a common skill that can be trained and developed. It is innate and depends on people to be actively trained for it to be used optimally.
Full Concentration:
Often referred to as the flow state, not from a video game, but an actual phenomenon. Shockingly, the human brain can reach such a unique phase where it completely severs off time and the world, and completely gets immersed in an activity. This is what most top-tier and elite athletes experience. It doesn’t have to be just sports, arts, and other activities; also experience this. It is characterized by an intense and full submergence of the brain into an activity, it’s powerful and quite hysterical at times, but your goals are achieved most of the time. We’ve all experienced it at least once, and it is an ongoing “dream” in our minds. We believe it did not really happen because it was abnormally powerful in a task. You lose your own consciousness, and your focus levels are directed towards one specific goal. This stage is heavilysought afterd, but it is only reached by the most dedicated and devoted individuals. Several factors must align, and circumstances need to be just right for this phenomenon to occur, but when it does, productivity increases exponentially. Most great things have happened in a period of intense concentration,
Game-winning shots
Dynamic Paintings
Storytelling
Final Exams
If you truly want something and you’re willing to do anything to achieve it, you’ll most likely immerse yourself in one of these concentration periods.
Why is Concentration Important:
As mentioned before, concentration is a human ability; it is one of the most fundamental things that allows us to complete tasks and learn new skills to add to our understanding. You, who is reading this text, have concentrated your energy and mind to comprehend what we’ve been stating and listing in the last several paragraphs. You should always maximize concentration because that is how development occurs in humans. Alternatively, when concentration is neglected, productivity is significantly hindered; it is like we’ve been possessed by a ghost in some scenarios where we have performed so greatly, but then other times, we are lazy and simply apathetic towards everything.
Concentration helps many things.
Learning new skills
Understanding yourself
Setting and Achieving New Goals
Pushing you out of your comfort zone
You need to maximize your focus.
Recollection:
Think of something you are above average in. You do not need to be the greatest or a part of the upper echelon, but you should feel confident in those skills. Once you’ve thought of an important skill you’ve learned, try to remember the first time you attempted it. It probably happened several months, maybe even years ago, but you can most likely remember it fairly. We have an internal reminder system to trace certain circumstances back to an origin. For example, if you play in a basketball league, you have probably remembered the first time you actually played basketball. Once these two memories appear in your head, you are probably thinking, “How did I improve this much?” The answer is practice and concentration.
You’ve concentrated for several classes and coaching sessions, watched several sports highlights, and learned from your peers to master your fundamentals. Even if you had seen yourself becoming lazier at a certain point, the times when you weren’t lazy stand out as immense improvement periods. You’ve grown so much and learnt valuable skills not only in basketball, but in life. Apply these skills and dedication to other aspects of your life, and it will certainly be worth it.
