Patience: The Forgotten Quality

ree

Introduction:

Everything seems normal at first, improvements are common within a couple of hours of learning English, and you constantly learn new sentences, phrases, and meanings. Suddenly, you hit a plateau along your voyage, and it angers you dearly as your skills have remained at the same level for several days. Many English learners face a slump, a sort of card that insists you quit English. Numerous oblige, but understanding slumps allow for reconsideration of how you learned before, and revising your methods to boost the outcome. The trait of patience is crucial for new speakers; without it, English turns into a nightmare.

Psychology of Patience in Learning English:

Patience is often defined as staying calm, under control, and firm under any sort of pressure. For example, most individuals would get frustrated after a blunder on a test, but those with sufficient patience will understand and build from their mistakes. This mentality is important when we apply to to the field of English, as errors are extraordinarily common and understanding proper measures to counteract disappointment is vital for perfection.

Common Challenges:

There are various challenges learners encounter when figuring out English. Some include:

  • Forgetting Vocab

  • Stuttering/Improper pronunciation

  • Fast conversations

Forgetting Vocab refers to the simple nature of disregarding challenging words. Our brains tend to filter out words it has never seen before, or difficult words to use in scenarios. This causes us to repeat the same collection of words constantly, even if they might be used in the wrong tense. Words like “things” and “like” are used significantly in society nowadays. They are amazing words in use in conversations, but not having a strong vocabulary can make describing events difficult.

Stuttering words is also another challenge people face. Long or harsh words may cause the brain to pause, and a bad instance with longer words can make future encounters feel traumatic when pronouncing those same words.

Try not to speak too fast; it sounds too simple, but speaking too fast can cause stuttering and make it hard for your friends to comprehend what you are saying.

How Patience Helps Challenges:

You’ve probably heard many times, try not to overthink, and stay calm during frustrating moments. However, that is quite impossible as emotions are too strong to conceal. It is plausible to decrease the frustration rather than completely remove it. It may seem counterintuitive at first, but having a little frustration can help and motivate you into trying harder the next time. Obviously, staying tranquil is also important. Here are a couple of methods to use:

  • Mindfulness

  • Shifting Perspective

  • Focus on the positives

It takes months and years to develop suitable patience. It is not too late to start, and building patience can drastically improve all fields, not just English.

How to Start Building Patience:

As mentioned previously, mindset is key. Instead of blaming yourself for mistakes like

  • “How can I make such a dumb mistake?”

Try to alter your thinking into

  • “This was a mistake I cannot change. What can I improve in the future?”

It all starts in the mind. The brain builds endurance, and over time, mistakes will not cause you any trouble. Set goals and track progress; it may seem cliché, but it does benefit quite a lot. Focus on passion rather than forcing.

Conclusion:

Patience is raw, it is hard to thoroughly understand, and it is nearly impossible to fully master. However, it is possible to take steps towards it, and even if it may not be the full potential, the slightest improvements in thinking and the decrease in pressure and drastically improve results when it comes to English, or life in general. At Hope through English, we will try our best to build your patience with challenges and construct your mindset into curiosity.
